She may have injured her ankle either with a fracture,or ligament sprain/tear.Get an x-ray ankle to rule out fracture.Swelling takes few weeks to settle. In the absence of pain ,it could be just soft tissue injury. She could use ankle support and pain killer if needed.

Hello, I'm Dr. Nikhil Aggarwal. I'm sorry to hear about your mother's injury. Based on the information you have provided, it sounds like she may have sprained or strained her ankle. Swelling is a common symptom of these types of injuries, and it can take several weeks for the swelling to go down completely. However, it's important to rule out any more serious injuries, such as a fracture or ligament tear. I would recommend that your mother schedule an appointment with her doctor or a podiatrist for further evaluation. They may recommend imaging studies, such as an X-ray or MRI, to determine the extent of the injury. In the meantime, your mother can take steps to manage the swelling and promote healing. This may include: 1. Resting the affected foot and avoiding activities that may aggravate the injury. 2. Applying ice to the affected area for 20 minutes at a time, several times a day. 3. Elevating the affected foot above the level of the heart to help reduce swelling. 4. Taking over-the-counter pain relievers, such as acetaminophen or ibuprofen, as directed by her doctor. 5. Wearing a compression bandage or brace to help support the affected foot and reduce swelling. It's important to monitor the swelling and other symptoms, and to seek medical attention if they worsen or do not improve over time. I hope this information helps, and please don't hesitate to reach out if you have any further questions or concerns.
