Kidney Transplant
One of my relatives, 50 year old female, needs a kidney transplant (2nd time). She is on dialysis now (3 times a week). First Kidney transplant done in 2010. Her blood group is O+ve. The donors who are ready in her blood line are AB+ and B+. Is blood group compatibility absolutely essential for this transplant? Should we continue to wait for an O+ donor or is it possible to go for a transplant with a blood line donor with a different blood group?

Yes blood group compatibility is a must. Since it is a second transplant better to wait for an O+ve donor

Waiting for a blood group compatible donor is difficult... Main take a lot of time. The other option which is left out is going ahead for ABO incompatible transplant. Incompatible transplants have their own risk of infections which is higher than compatible transplant. Searching for same blood group would be better. Please consult a nearby nephrologist or transplant centres to discuss about ABO incompatible transplant.

Good evening, it is all preferable to have matched blood group band matched hla donors, however your Nephrologist would be the best person to guide you through it.
