Iv wound on hand
Hi Doctor, I received an IV drip on December 9th, and four days later, I developed an open wound at the injection site that hasn’t healed yet. White pus mixed with blood drains intermittently, and there’s slight swelling on my hand. The original doctor referred me to a surgeon, who recommended a minor procedure to incise the skin, drain the pus, and stitch it up. Is there any non-surgical alternative, like an ointment or antibiotic tablets, to heal this? I’m concerned about the exact cause of the wound forming precisely at the IV site.

If you have no fevers or chills or rigors and you are eating as normal, this should settle with a course of oral antibiotics like Doxycycline 100mg once a day with food for a week. All the best. J G S R clinic

This would be wound site infection! Surgeon is the correct person to deal this! Antibiotics course could be tried but the surgeon can only decide if antibiotics could do the work or a procedure is needed according to signs and symptoms
