Is it okay to use these many days
I underwent prk surgery on dec 13th 2025 with high myopia -8(right) -7.5 (left) and given nextane, lotepred, antibiotic all three 4 times a day for one week and antibiotic is stopped and continue with lotepred drops 3 times for next 1 month and then I continued and after 1 month reduced to 2 drops but pressure has raised and doctor gave another drop iotim 0.5% 2 times a day till next 2 months so I am worried and asked doctor about why using steriods these many days and she told for high myopia we need to use steriods minimum 6 months like that hence currently I am using lotepred and iotim twice a day till next 2 montha so tell me doctors is there any side effects for eye health and for general health as well since I am worrying about iotim systematic side effects

One reason for long use of lotepred (steroid) is to reduce the inflammation causes by the laser.  As your power was high, higher amount of laser is applied to correct your power. But in few poeple,  when steroids are used for longer time, eye pressure rises. So to control pressure, Iotim is given. Eyedrops usually has very less side effects in body and its absorption into blood is very very low. If you are worried, you can press your inner part of lids (towards nose), 5 minutes after you put Iotim eyedrop, to reduce absorption into blood.

Side effects are of every medicine but we need to see the risk benefit ratio. You can use these eye drops two times a day but if you feel any systemic side effect or ocular side effect consult your ophthalmologist for changing the medicines

Good afternoon sir Steroid eyedrops are given post PRK to promote healing and reduce inflammation. Some patients labelled as " Steroid responders " can developed high intra ocular pressure as a side effect. High IOP can cause optic nerve damage ( Steroid induced Glaucoma).
Next Steps
Since you have already been started on Iotim, the eye pressure might be under control. Post PRK if the healing and visual improvement is complete, you can taper and stop steroids after consulting with your surgeon
Health Tips
Any form of Steroid ( eyedrops, tablets, skin cream, injection, inhaler) may cause raised eye pressure in "Steroid responders"

lotepred is a low dose steroid and side effect is rise in eye pressure but it has been already taken care and unless you have asthma or any heart problem you mostly dont have to worry about systemic side effects or iotim to minimize systemic side effects keep pressure for 1min near inner canthus where there is a connection to the nasolacrimal duct after putting eye drop
