Walking up multiple times for a few minutes in a night is completely normal as long as you can fall back to sleep. No one sleeps for 8 hours at a stretch without occasional wake ups. Also to diagnose some one with insomnia one must have day time symptoms too. Some individuals develop dependence and tolerance with benzos as well as z drugs.. Get another evaluation of symptoms and look for alternative solutions. The reason for disturbed sleep could be as simple as consuming too many cups of coffee or anxiety.. Pls discuss and rule out the common reason of disturbed sleep first then move on to rarer one.

Hi.Insomnia can be a symptom of lot of conditions.(both medical and psychological). A lot of times stress, anxiety, depression, addictions can also present as insomnia. Without knowing the proper cause and just using a sleeping pill will not cure your problem. I advise you to consult a psychiatrist before you come to any conclusions.they can help you with required investigations, basic assessment and treatment.
