Pain on the inner side of the knee with mild swelling after running is most commonly due to overuse or strain such as irritation of the medial ligament pes anserine area or early meniscus stress stop running for now and avoid activities that increase pain apply ice for 10–15 minutes, 2–3 times a day, keep the knee rested, and use light support if comfortable if pain and swelling settle in a few days you can return gradually if pain persists increases, or you feel locking or instability, a clinical examination and possibly an MRI will be needed to rule out internal injury
