Ibd mom, breastfeeding while on medicati
I am a mother with IBD. During pregnancy I was only on Mesalamine and my symptoms subsided. But now after 2 months of delivery symptoms of IBD has relapsed. I will have to take immunosuppresant like Azathioprine n steroid budesonide. Can I continue breastfeeding while on these medications.ls it safe for my baby.

Both Azathioprine and Budesonide are considered safe during lactation. Only very minimal amount passes into breast milk and studies have not shown harm to babies. Just inform your pediatrician and monitor baby’s weight and general health. No need to stop breastfeeding.
