I have problem with dental retainer

Hello, I have dental retainers and it has scratches on the side, everytime my toungue or any of the mouth touches the scratches I usually drool or my mouth produces excess saliva, it bothers me and make me depress. Can I just ignore it or what will I do to solve the problem? thanks
