Numbers close to 1 do not predict future positivity by themselves. Please don’t panic.

"A value of 0.87 on an HIV p24 antigen combo test is clinically Negative. It is a common misconception that this number represents a 'count' of the virus. In reality, this is a Signal-to-Cutoff (S/CO) ratio. Any value below 1.00 is non-reactive. The 0.87 is simply 'background noise' or natural protein interference in the blood; it does not mean there is a small amount of virus present, nor does it mean the value is 'rising' toward a positive result. However, because the test was done only 13 days after exposure, we must account for the biological window period."
Next Steps
The 28-Day Milestone: "While the p24 antigen can sometimes be detected early, a 4th-generation combo test is most reliable starting from 28 days post-exposure. I recommend your partner repeats the test at the 4-week mark for a much higher degree of clinical certainty." Definitive Testing: "For absolute, 100% medical closure, the test should be repeated 90 days (3 months) after the encounter. This is the internationally recognized 'gold standard' for a final negative result." Symptom Monitoring: "If your partner develops a high fever, unexplained rash, or severe sore throat before the next test date, you should consult a specialist immediately for a clinical evaluation."
