You dont require Rabies or Tetanus injection untill there was anysort of scratch, abrasions, bite, saliva lick. So in this you absolutely require to take vaccines at the earliest in your nearby hospitals clinics or nursing homes or pharmaceticals.
Next Steps
Clean the area with soap water

Dear Practo User. Thanks for sending across your query. Even a minor scratch or tiny puncture from a stray cat can pose a risk of infection, including tetanus or cat scratch disease. Clean the wound, monitor for redness/swelling, and consider seeing a doctor for assessment and vaccination.

✅ What to do immediately: 1. Clean the wound well with soap and water. 2. Apply antiseptic (like Betadine or povidone-iodine). 3. Monitor for redness, swelling, pus, or fever. --- ⚠️ Should you be worried? Main concerns: 1. Rabies Risk Rabies from scratches is rare, but not impossible if saliva got into the wound. Higher risk if the cat seemed aggressive, abnormal, or unwell. 2. Tetanus If you haven’t had a tetanus shot in the last 5–10 years, a booster may be needed. 3. Cat-Scratch Disease (from Bartonella bacteria) Can occur from even minor scratches. Symptoms: Swollen lymph nodes, mild fever, fatigue (usually shows up within 1–3 weeks).
Next Steps
See a doctor within 24 hours, especially if: The cat was stray or unvaccinated You’re unsure about your tetanus vaccination The cat’s health status is unknown Rabies vaccine may be started as a precaution if the risk is deemed high by a doctor.
Health Tips
Let me know if the cat bit you, seemed sick or unusually aggressive, or if you have a weakened immune system — that may change the advice.
