Hello Doctor, my mother has ovarian cancer and has completed 4 cycles of neoadjuvant chemotherapy with very good response (CA-125 reduced from 273 to 11). Her treating team is now planning interval cytoreductive surgery with HIPEC.
We would like to take an expert opinion specifically regarding whether HIPEC is truly necessary/beneficial in her case, considering the additional recovery burden and cost. Could you please help us in deciding if HIPEC would be necessary and effective ?
Thank you.

HIPEC is a new approach in ovarian cancer surgery where high temp chemotherapy (41 to 43°C ) is given intraperitoneal during debulking surgery. Mainly advised after NACT in good performance status stage III ovarian cancer patients. NCCN has approved it to be beneficial. Yes the cost is increased. So it's not necessary yet advisable if ur patient fits into this criteria. So if finances are affordable u can proceed for HIPEC. Eligibility can be decided only if u share PET CT reports as stage is not known in this case.
