I think I have something called as herpes Iabialis. I've developed 3-4 blisters on my upper lip, a couple beneath my left eye, in the last 3 days. The blisters are burning and are developing a yellowish thick layer. If I accidentally touch them, they start bleeding. I've been experiencing pain in the left side of my throat below the jaw, high fever, dizziness, fatigue since yesterday afternoon. I was administered Paracetamol last night, after which the fever subsided. But the symptoms are appearing again. I'm a pilot by profession and need to know the fastest way to recover from this and prevent this in future. What is the incubation period for this issue? How can I be sure if the diagnosis is correct and whom should I consult, a dermatologist or a general physician or some other specialist. Kindly advise. Thank you.

Herpes infection when troublesome to the patient, suppressive therapy can be considered. It is usually offered to patients who suffer with more than or equal to 6 episodes in a year. It can be started with lesser episodes also if the quality of life of the patient is disturbed. Suppressive therapy promises break free intervals and longer remission with reduced dosage. It should be given for a minimum of 6 months duration. In certain cases, the effect works even after discontinuation but as said a period of 6 months has to be there.
