They are pretty safe. More often i have noticed when patients read about side effects , it gets into their head and they are more prone to show symptoms. This phenomenon is called "nocebo" phenomenon. Finasteride and minoxidil , that you have been prescribed, are both FDA approved medications for hair loss. You can take them , there is no need to worry. I also prescribe them very routinely. However, to comment whether you need additional medications apart from them i would need to assess the extent of baldness.
