Namastey What you’re describing—crying while passing gas along with loose, yellow, seedy stools—is actually quite common in young breastfed babies. This usually happens because their digestive system is still immature. Passing gas can cause discomfort, so babies may cry or strain. The stool you described (yellow, watery, seedy) is normal for breastfed infants, unless it is excessively frequent, foul-smelling, green with mucus, or associated with fever or poor feeding. Regarding gripe water: it is generally not recommended for newborns, especially under 2–3 months. Many formulations contain sugars, herbs, or additives that are not necessary and may sometimes cause more harm than benefit. There is no strong scientific evidence that gripe water reliably helps with gas or colic.
Next Steps
For now, focus on simple and safe measures. After every feed, burp your baby well (even mid-feed if needed). Ensure proper latching during breastfeeding, as swallowing air can increase gas. You can also try gentle techniques like holding baby upright, or doing bicycle leg movements to help release gas naturally. Keep an eye on warning signs: if your baby has persistent inconsolable crying, vomiting, blood in stool, fever, refusal to feed, or poor weight gain, then a pediatric consultation is important. Otherwise, what you’re seeing is likely a normal phase of infant digestion.
Health Tips
Your baby’s gut will gradually mature over the next few weeks. Until then, maintain a calm feeding routine and avoid overfeeding. If you’re breastfeeding, observe if certain foods in your diet (like very spicy or gas-forming foods) seem to worsen symptoms—but don’t restrict unnecessarily. Instead of gripe water, you can consider gentle, traditional approaches like light abdominal massage with warm hands or a slightly warm cloth on the tummy (not hot). These are safer and often effective. Most importantly, remember—this phase is temporary, and babies usually outgrow this gas discomfort by 2–3 months of age. Thank you

Hello. You can give gripe water to your baby. Always do burping after every feed. Try and take healthy food for the mother . So breast feed will not cause bloating to baby. Try and make baby sleep on stomach so that gas will pass and baby won't cry.

“In a 1-month-old, passing gas with yellow, seedy stools is usually normal, especially in breastfed babies. Crying during gas can be due to colic. Gripe water is generally not recommended at this age. Focus on proper burping, correct feeding technique and tummy comfort. If crying is excessive or baby is not feeding/sleeping well, please consult a pediatrician. You may consult me for guidance on safe management.”
