Gout is a arthritis of joints (most commonly the great toe ) in response to deposition of uric acid crystals in the joint usually as a consequence in of hyperuricemia ( high levels of uric acid in blood)
Hyperuricemia can be due to increased production or decreased excretion of the same from kidneys
Some factors which increase uric acid levels are
Dietary : red meat , fish, organ meats(liver ), cauliflower ,alcohol(beer) etc
Medicines : diuretics (thiazide diuretics), cyclosporine, levodopa etc
Other diseases: psoriasis , haemolytic anemia etc
The treatment
needs to be directed to reduce the arthritis of the involved joint
and to treat the cause of increased uric acid
Further examination and investigations are required to decide upon treatment course
Plese consult for futher evaluation and treatment
