Hi Doctor, which soap is best to apply in private areas like groin, inner thigh and buttock region? I generally apply any soap like lux, dettol etc but after applying them my skin becomes more dry there and starts itching.

• Dryness and itching in groin/inner thigh areas are commonly due to use of harsh/alkaline soaps (like Dettol, strong antiseptic soaps) • These areas have sensitive skin with a different pH, so regular soaps can disrupt the barrier and cause irritation • Recurrent dryness + itching can sometimes predispose to frictional dermatitis or fungal infections Next Steps • Switch to a mild, pH-balanced intimate or syndet-based cleanser suitable for sensitive skin • Observe if symptoms reduce after avoiding harsh soaps • If itching persists, a clinical evaluation may be needed to rule out underlying infection Helpful Tips / Word of Caution • Avoid antiseptic/medicated soaps for daily use in private areas • Keep the area dry; change sweaty clothes promptly • Prefer loose, breathable cotton undergarments to reduce irritation Kindly consult with me via practo for detailed evaluation and treatment

You can use a gentle soap like Dove, Pears, or any moisturizing bar to avoid excessive dryness.”Sometimes it could be underlying eczema, so it’s better to consult a dermatologist for proper treatment.”
