It's better to opt for surgery as suggested by ur treating surgeon. No procedure or treatment is devoid of complications or side effects, but if it's what's required and the only solution, then we shouldn't avoid it, right? Donot panic. Trust your surgeon. As such there is no effective medical method to reduce gall stone size.

In your scenario as there're multiple gall stones, it is better if you get yourself operated. But all the surgeries come with their own risks so it's always better to do a risk vs benefit analysis.
Next Steps
If the gall stones are symptomatic like frequent nausea and abdominal pain, it's best that you get yourself operated. nowadays the surgery is done via laparoscopy so you'll be discharged with in 2-3 days at maximum provided you don't have any other illness like hypertension and diabetes.
Health Tips
Refrain from consuming oily meals and cholesterol rich foods.

Imagine your gallstones like multiple big cows scattered on a highway, right now they're not causing you much of a problem but if someday if these cows roam around and move to an narrow area it may cause a traffic jam, which in your case may be cholecystitis (inflammation of the gall bladder) or if they move into your bile duct, it may cause jaundice and bowel issues. It may happen when you least expect it, but if you've been asymptomatic for a long time they may be termed silent gallstones.
Next Steps
you should consult a general surgeon about the size and location of your gallstones to determine the risk of them causing the above problems. if they're silent gallstones they need not be operated, you may live with them for your whole life without much issues.
Health Tips
if you notice abdomen pain fever vomiting jaundice or any such symptoms you should rush to a hospital quickly and let them know about your gallstones.
