Fosfomycin dosage for uti

Asked for Female, 37 Years

Hi I have taken fosfomycin as recommended by my doctor before sleeping at night after emptying my bladder. She also recommended I avoid urination after taking it to help the bladder absorb the medicine. But what if I need to pass urine? Will it affect the efficacy?

Fosfomycin reaches its highest concentration in the urine within 2–4 hours. As it remains effective in the bladder for almost 48 hours, its efficacy is not significantly reduced. For optimal results, it is advisable to empty the bladder before taking the dose and administer it at night to maximize contact time with the urinary tract.
