Forgetfullness confusion
My mother has been staying alone since a very long time, around 9years and has had a very upsetting and tortured married life. She has gradually developed the following symptoms: forgets things very quickly like if i have told her about something she will ask me same thing again in half hour. Or might forget an entire plan made today for tomorrow. Secondly she gets very confused managing household chores too. Thirdly she always talks roughly if any situation is against her. She always wants to prove that whatever she is thinking is right and everyone else is wrong. If we try to make her know the mistake she made, she wont accept and gets very angry and talks about all the negative things. I am very worried if she has any serious medical conditions like Alzheimer's or something. She refuses to show to any doctor and always says that i am fine but you all are making me crazy.

Hi Careful evaluation of you history suggest she is suffering from anxiety and depression than Alzheimer's ....we need to focus on both the treatment plans... Let's have a clear evaluation for depression and MMSE. I feel she need medication and her medical conditions need evaluation.

I understand your concerns for your mother. But please clarify a few things... Firstly, what is the age of your mother. Alzheimer's dementia is a disorder of old age, and is more common in individuals aged above 60-65years. Secondly, does she have any other medical problems like hypertension, which were not diagnosed yet, or have been recently diagnosed. If she has any medical problems, is she taking the tablets regularly.. Sometimes, untreated or improperly treated medical problems can lead to dementia Thirdly, is she eating a balanced diet? Some nutritional deficiencies cause dementia Last and most importantly, did she have any falls recently? These are a few causes for Dementia Because you mentioned that she stays alone, we have to look into these issues.
Next Steps
please consult with a Psychiatrist ASAP for full evaluation to know the extent and severity of the problem even if someone has dementia, there is still hope. there are treatments that are effective especially in early stages of the disease so please get a Psychiatric consultation ASAP
