Stopping Flunarizine 5 mg after taking it for 8 months does NOT increase the risk of heart attack or stroke. It is completely safe to stop the medicine when the doctor advises. You do not have BP, sugar, or heart disease, and your: • ECG – normal • Echo – normal • EEG – normal • CT brain – normal So your baseline risk of heart attack or stroke is already very low.
Next Steps
Why your doctor asked you to stop it Flunarizine is usually used only for a period of: • 6 months to 1 year because long-term use may cause: • Weight gain • Low mood / depression • Fatigue So stopping it is actually the correct and safer step once the migraine stays under control.
Health Tips
Flunarizine is not a blood pressure medicine and does not prevent heart attacks or strokes. It is used mainly for: • Vestibular migraine • Vertigo • Migraine prevention • Sometimes anxiety-related dizziness It works by stabilizing the inner ear and brain calcium channels, not by lowering BP. So stopping it does not remove any heart protection, because it never acted as a heart-protective drug in the first place.
