Fibroadonoma
I am 30 years old having fibroadonoma of size 3.7* 2.4 cm. I dont for how many years I am having it. I felt this long back before 10 yrs itself. I thought it's normal. Now I am planning to get pregnant. Doctor advised me to undergo surgery because fibroadonoma can grow during pregnancy. I am confused. Will it impact my pregnancy if I get pregnant after operating and removal of fibroadonoma. What will be the recovery time. Kindly help me

Hi.. During pregnancy, due to hormonal effect, there is a chance of the fibroadenoma increasing. The increase may not be evident or may be slight. It won't be threatening to you or your pregnancy. So if you are unsure of the procedure, you don't have to get it done. At the same time, do keep in mind that the incision (possible scar) for fibroadenoma depends on size of the swelling (also depends on type of incision and skill of your surgeon). Also, if you think you will be constantly worried about the fibroadenoma increasing during pregnancy, I recommend that you get it removed now. So you can carry on with pregnancy peacefully. It's a straight forward procedure which may not even need admission if you do it in day care, the recovery is usually issue less and the scar minimal or absent

Fibroadenoma is a benign condition  but it may increase in size during pregnancy due to hormonal changes. It is better to get operated before getting pregnant since you have time to plan .Anyways it is a minor surgical procedure and you will be ok within 10 days of surgery.
Next Steps
get a repeat usg done and consult a surgeon.

Lump breast of the size you have mentioned seems to be fibroadenoma, which is a freely mobile benign lump. It is better if you get it removed before planning pregnancy. The surgery isn't a major operation, and you will recover within 10 to 12 days. Don't forget to send the removed lump for Hystopathological examination. Thanks.

If it has been there for a long time, then not to worry. But during pregnancy there is a chance of growth due to hormones and increased blood supply to the breast in general. But it has no impact on pregnancy. U can get it removed if u want to before getting pregnant or even leave it alone.

Fibroadenoma is a benign condition. It does increase in size during pregnancy due to the effect of hormones while pregnancy is unaffected by the presence or absence of fibroadenoma. Currently there are no guidelines suggesting excision of biopsy proven simple fibroadenoma prior to pregnancy. Even if size increases during pregnancy 50 % of times lesion will regress spontaneously. Only giant fibroadenoma i.e. size >5 cm requires excision. Surgey is simple day care procedure can be discharged on the same day with almost complete recovery by end of 2 weeks.
