Extreme low weight (37kg) at 18 years
I am an 18-year-old male currently living in Kota. My weight is very low, only 37kg, and I feel like I am losing more weight recently. I want to gain muscle and reach a healthy weight, but I have a very low appetite. I am a student on a tight budget. Please suggest if I need any blood tests (like thyroid or CBC) to find the cause of weight loss, and recommend a high-calorie diet plan that a student can afford. Also, is it safe for me to take Ayurvedic weight gain supplements?

You can start with some basic tests: • CBC • Thyroid profile (TSH) • Vitamin B12 & Vitamin D • Iron studies/Ferritin • Blood sugar (Fasting glucose) • Liver function test • Stool examination if there is bloating, loose stools or digestion issues
Next Steps
For healthy weight gain, focus more on calorie-dense nutritious foods instead of junk foods. Since you are a student, affordable options can work very well: • Banana + peanut butter/shake • Milk, curd, paneer • Eggs or soy/chana if vegetarian • Rice, potatoes, poha, oats • Peanut chikki, dry fruits, roasted peanuts • Add ghee, butter or peanut paste to meals • Eat small frequent meals every 2–3 hours • Include strength training/exercise 3–4 times weekly to build muscle, not just fat A simple high-calorie shake can help: Milk + banana + peanuts/peanut butter + oats + dates.
Health Tips
Regarding Ayurvedic weight gain supplements, avoid taking random products without guidance because some may contain steroids, heavy metals, or unsafe ingredients. It is safer to first identify the cause of low weight and focus on diet, sleep, exercise, and correcting deficiencies.
