Hi Doctor, my pet dog bit my hand tonight and broke the skin. I washed it with water and applied turmeric/aftershave to stop the bleeding. Is it safe to wait and visit your clinic first thing tomorrow morning, or do I need to go to an emergency room right now?

Better safe than sorry
For a superficial dog bite (Category I or II), immediately wash the area thoroughly with soap and running water for at least 15–20 minutes, then apply an antiseptic such as povidone-iodine. Category I (touch/lick on intact skin) requires no vaccination. Category II (minor scratches/abrasions without significant bleeding) requires anti-rabies vaccination (ARV) on days 0, 3, 7, 14, and 28, but rabies immunoglobulin (RIG) is not needed. The same will be assessed at nearest hospital/doctor clinic , your previous immunization history is very important in this regard, kindly take your vaccination data alongwith you, might also need vaccination .

You must visit nearest hospital and get your wound examined, thoroughly cleaned and dressed if required. Also to get your TT dose and post exposure rabies prophylaxis ( Do follow the schedule provided)..
You need to go to the emergency room to get your wound thoroughly washed and cleaned and to start post exposure prophylaxis to prevent rabies. Also, You will need your tetanus shot.
Was there any bleeding associated with it?.No need to apply turmeric .I would advise you to visit nearest General surgeon as early as possible for further examination and vaccination.
