Diaherra for babies
Hi - Our baby is 5 month preterm baby, we are started giving nestum rice for past 1 month, we suddenly see there is a severe diarrhea on the baby, and we did stool test and there is no bacterial infection. One of the doctor prescribed to give only Zinc Z&D. for 2 weeks, will this cure this diarrhea problem, Also do we need to stop giving Nestum rice for the baby?

Exclusive breast feeding to be done for 6 months and later we need to introduce complementary foods. As baby is still 5 month old and it is prematurely born, diarrhoea is due to indigestion. Please stop giving nestum rice and continue breast feeding.

Nestum rice is a cereal and should not be started before baby is 6 months of age. Baby should be exclusively breastfed or formula fed for the first 6 months Post 6 months, nestum rice should not be the choice of food to start weaning, home cooked food is preferred.
Next Steps
Stop nestum rice as baby’s gut is not yet developed to digest it.
