diabetes has hereditary as well environmental component, it can be prevented with gud healthy diet and lifestyle and physical activity, of course measuring plasma glucose and timely diagnosis is also helpful, in prediabetes stage progression can be delayed with metformin

Diabetes is not 100% heriditary. If u are able to maintain BMI < 23kg/m2 then your risk reduced to only < 30%
Healthy diet low in carbs and oil
Regular exercise 30-60min daily
Some tabs like Metformin are used to prevent diabetes in obese individuals
At present no vaccine is available though research is going on
Next Steps
check HbA1c and FBS once a year if normal then once in 2-3 years
