Developed skin infections with itching
Since past two months, my grandfather has developed severe skin infections, having symptoms of dryness, swelling in limbs, incessant itching and developed certain black patches with boils/pimples. We consulted a dermatologist but her ongoing treatment has shown no significant improvement in his condition. Infact, the itching has increased gradually and it is troubling him alot. It triggers anytime and compels him to scratch his skin for relief, which inturn increases his condition (also open wounds on skin). He is a patient of Chronic Kidney Disease, and Benign Prostate Hyperplasia alongwith having hypothyroidism, anaemia, Constipation and high BP. He had undergone haemorrhoid (piles) surgery (MIPH) last year. Currently he is on the medications mentioned in the enclosure. Kindly suggest treatment for his worsening skin conditions.

Hello dear. Your father has co-morbidities including CKD-3. This explains the intense pruritus. Please understand that this itching is not  primarily due to any skin disease per se, but because of such other illnesses. I can only say moisturise, moisturise and moisturise his skin. Give him oil baths. Be careful though with the slipperiness

All the diseases he is suffering from, are capable of inducing severe itching. And aggrevated by dryness. Apply moisturizer 4-5 times a day. Get his blood tests done.
