Many people don't understand what depression is and how exactly a depressed person feels like, unless they were depressed at some point of time in their life.
...try to cope with some natural ways..
1. work less
2. get proper sleep
3.exercise daily
4.Get out in nature
5.Express gratitude daily
6.Meditate
7. Spend time with people you love..........
Now, I am going to tell you a powerful lesson here. Pay attention:
â Mind and body are connected.â
Once again:
â Mind and body are connected.â
I donât know how you have reached to depression, I want you to take responsibility of your current state now. Donât blame anyone, not even yourself. Donât blame circumstances. It is your mind that is doing the trick. Let me elaborate the lesson that I have learned.
See, when you think negative or positive, you must have seen the impact of these thoughts on your body accordingly. Right?
Also, you must have seen one more thing. The way you carry your body also impacts your mind. Walk like a shrimp. And you put yourself in a negative state. Walk with your shoulders up. You feel confident.
You are in depression right now. Your mind is heavily loaded with negativity. It would be next to impossible for you to allow a positive thought into your mind. I can say you have little control over your mind right now. But you know what? You have one thing in absolute control. Your body. Use your body to tame your mind. I know it sounds contradictory because I just said- âMind controls bodyâ. But please add one more thing to that â Body also controls mindâ. It goes both ways.
So, what I am strongly recommending you is (I know it takes little will power but if I were you, I would have done everything possible to get me out of this mental hell):
Do something that engages your mind. Absolutely important. You know why? It keeps your mind off of your depressing thoughts. And gradually, your mind will come out of autopilot. More you bring your mind out of autopilot, lesser it tends to fall back to old ways of thinking.
Resolve right now that you will get up every morning and do some physical workout. Doing some physical workout will release feel good endorphins in your brain.
Do Anuloma Viloma pranayama at any cost. Learn the right technique. This pranayama has very calming effect on your mind. This pranayama will give maximum benefits when you concentrate your mind while doing it. Donât listen to music while doing this. Another pranayama that I would like to mention is Kapalbhati. It is a powerful pranayama which shows effects from the day 1 itself. Kumbhaka is another powerful breath retention technique that calms mind to a great extent.
Do yourself a favour by learning mindfulness. Do it daily.
Try to be with people. Donât sit secluded. THIS IS IMPORTANT. If you stay alone, talk to someone. It would be even better if you could talk to someone who would understand what you are going through.
Instead of taking allopathic antidepressants, use ayurvedic medicines like Ashwagandha. I have found it very effective. Antidepressants do have negative impact on your body. Vitamin C has been found to lower the cortisol levels as well. Cortisol is a major stress hormone produced by adrenal glands.
Take proper sleep. Sleep deprivation actually makes depression worst. One important tip. Never use your bed to lie down and think. The reason is your mind associates bed with thinking. You must only go to bed when you are really sleepy. If you meditate and do pranayama, it will be easy for you to fall asleep. If possible, start consuming egg yolks. Consuming 3â4 egg yolks daily is perfectly safe for a healthy person. Egg yolks contain vitamin B6 which help the biosynthesis of melatonin (for deeper sleep).
Take enough sunlight. Sunlight has the power to dispel negativity. Also, your body synthesises vitamin D using sunlight. Vitamin D is important for the production of hormones that keep you mentally healthy.
You must adopt the attitude of gratitude if you are going through depression. It shifts your energy towards positivity. I know it would be difficult in beginning but you have to start.
One secret: Mind and breath are connected. If your mind is very agitated, your breath rate will be fast. Now, if you consciously observe your breath you will calm down your mind because this very act slows your breath rate down. It works both ways.
If possible, take cold showers. It literally works like a gem! try it and see its powerful anti-depression effect. I feel very calm and less reactive on the days I take cold shower. I have tried it multiple times. It works.
I have read that lot of people start masturbating very frequently as it gives them temporary relief. This is the worst coping mechanism anyone in depression can cultivate. Rather, abstaining from masturbation has been seen to have improved the symptoms of depression. You can read more about this phenomenon online.
If you survive depression, then it is going to make you stronger. You will find there are lot of things which do not affect you anymore.
If you follow these tips religiously, your mind will gradually lose its grip over you. Patience is the key here. Realise the truth that YOU ARE NOT YOUR MIND. When it happens, you can resolve those mental issues that cause you to think negative. Matter of the fact is, you cannot fight your own thoughts, see this fact as early as possible-consider it a law. As you see this fact, you can free yourself of the mental torture that you are giving to yourself. Donât try to fight your thoughts, you will fail miserably. Try reading âThe untethered soulâ by Michael Singer. This book elaborates the fact that I just told above.
Most of the things that I have suggested here are to be done physically. When you do something physically, your subconscious mind starts noticing it. It knows that you are doing something which is contrary to the thoughts you are generating in mind. This slowly changes your perception about yourself (self-image) and you eventually come out of it without even knowing.
I donât know whether you have heard about Hatha yoga or not. It is an ancient practice aimed to make changes in your physicality. But it actually works upon your mind. It shows if you change your body, you change your mind as well- no exception.
If you have query, please let me know. We can discuss.
Thanks.

Due to constant stress your body and mind is not able to function the way it normally does. When this problem increases it can lead to the state of depression. It happens due to decrease in certain neuro-transmitter chemicals released in your brain like - Serotonin, Nor-epinephrine and Dopamine. Different brain and body functions controlled by these neuro-transmitters are affected that result in many behavioral and physical symptoms.
If it is not timely treated it can cause memory problems and suicidal ideation in future. It also changes your behavior, memory, attention and energy levels. It can alter your personality/ temperament and can cause social difficulties in your relationships, job difficulties at your work.
There are many effects of Stress and Depression on your physical health also like your immune system, gastrointestinal system and sexual function are all adversely affected due to depression.
