I understand your concern—seeing your mother getting weaker day by day can be very distressing.
Depression along with leg tremors and weakness should not be ignored, as this may have both psychological and neurological/medical causes. It is important to assess both aspects properly instead of relying on only one type of treatment.
What you should do:
First, consult a Neurologist/Physician to evaluate the cause of tremors and weakness (it could be related to nerves, vitamin deficiency, medication side effects, or other conditions).
Alongside this, continue or start treatment with a Psychiatrist/Psychologist for depression.
If she is already on medication, a review of medicines is very important.
At home support:
Ensure proper nutrition, sleep, and regular routine.
Encourage light physical activity (as per doctor advice).
Provide emotional support—listen to her without judgment.
Important:
With the right diagnosis and combined treatment (medical + mental health support), improvement is definitely possible. Early and proper intervention can prevent further complications.
Please try to arrange a complete assessment as soon as possible rather than delaying.
It needs to be treated asap otherwise it may get complicated and can affect her personal and social life.
It needs to be treated in a holistic approach for complete recovery.
It can be well addressed with counseling sessions and homeopathic medicine effectively and without any side effects.
You need an expert Psychologist who is a good homeopathic physician.

Hi,
I understand, it’s very difficult to watch a parent’s health decline, especially when both physical weakness and depression are involved. Limb weakness and tremors should not be ignored, so it’s important to get a medical evaluation soon either a physician or neurologist can check for causes like nerve issues, vitamin deficiencies, or medication effects. At the same time, her depression may be reducing her energy and mobility, so a psychiatric review to adjust treatment can help.
Alongside medical care, offer gentle emotional and physical support like encourage small movements, short walks if possible, and keep her engaged in simple daily routines. Speak to her with patience and reassurance rather than pressure, and try to ensure she’s eating well and staying connected to family.
Health Tips
Ensure she gets basic blood tests (like B12, Vitamin D, thyroid) as deficiencies can affect weakness and mood. Keep her routine gentle but consistent like small daily movements, sunlight, and regular conversations can gradually improve both physical strength and emotional well-being.
Hi, have you consulted her psychiatrist about this?
If not, please connect once he may suggest some multivitamins or energy boosters. But don't take anything without doctor's prescription.
Next Steps
Try to go for walk, at least for half an hour a day. Once she makes this a habit she will go alone. It's important to increase the happy hormones in our body while fighting with depression.
watching a parent become physically weaker, especially slowly, can feel very heavy and frightening. You’re trying to understand what’s happening and how to help her that matters a lot.
1. Depression with physical (somatic) symptoms
In both DSM-5 and ICD-11, depression doesn’t only affect mood. It can also show up as:
Low energy, fatigue
Slowed movements (psychomotor retardation)
Body weakness or heaviness
Reduced physical activity → muscles become weaker over time
Sometimes, the body literally starts slowing down because the brain is underactive.
2. Medication side effects
If she is on psychiatric medication (especially antipsychotics or some antidepressants), tremors can occur:
Drug-induced Parkinsonism
Muscle stiffness or shaking
Restlessness or abnormal movements
This is very common and often treatable once identified.
3. Neurological conditions (must rule out)
Weakness + tremors together raise a medical red flag.
Conditions doctors usually want to rule out:
Parkinsonism disorders
Peripheral neuropathy
Vitamin deficiencies (like B12)
Thyroid problems
Early neurodegenerative conditions
Next Steps
1. Get a full medical evaluation (priority)
2. Psychiatric review
3. Gentle physical activation
Health Tips
You’re carrying concern and probably some fear.
It’s okay if you feel:
Helpless
Overwhelmed
Scared about what this means
You don’t have to figure everything out alone.
Your role is not to fix everything it’s to connect her to the right help and stay emotionally present.
Hi
It must be very difficult for you to see your mother becoming physically weaker along with her depression. When someone has long-term depression, it can affect not just mood but also energy levels, body strength, and even cause symptoms like tremors or heaviness in the limbs. However, progressive weakness and tremors should not be ignored as “just depression” because there could also be an underlying neurological, nutritional, or medical cause that needs proper evaluation. So the first important step is to get a full medical checkup done including a neurologist consultation, along with her ongoing mental health support.
At the same time, she needs gentle emotional and physical activation. Encourage small daily movements, sunlight exposure, and simple routines rather than forcing big changes. Stay emotionally available without pressuring her to “be normal,” and validate her struggles. Depression recovery works best with a combination of medication (if needed), therapy, and lifestyle support. You also need support as a caregiver because this can feel overwhelming over time. Hi,
Itâs important to seek medical attention for your mother as soon as possible, especially since her weakness and leg tremors are worsening. These symptoms could be due to various underlying health issues that need proper diagnosis and treatment. Encourage her to visit a healthcare professional promptly for a thorough evaluation, including neurological and general health assessments. Additionally, addressing her depression with professional mental health support can help improve her overall well-being. Ensure she receives proper nutrition, rest, and emotional support, and consider consulting both a neurologist and a psychiatrist to provide comprehensive care. Prioritizing her health and seeking timely medical help is crucial.
Hi,
Thank you for sharing your concern.
It is important to know that depression has a positive correlation with VitB/D, folate. To ensure your mother is provided with full care kindly show the lab tests to the psychologist. Please note, depression can be managed through CBT (very effective as per research). However, for that its important you share your mother’s depressive symptoms to the psychologist as well. Additionally, it might be beneficial for you to speak with a counsellor if deem yourself to he adversely affected by the same.
