My son who is 17 months old has Dental decay issue in his top four teeth. We went and saw pediatric dentist who advised to undergo root canal treatment after looking at xray reports. Is root canal treatment safe and advisable at such a young age? If not, then what's the alternative?

Hello sir...
Yes it is safe to do root canal treatment....Root canal treatment is one of a conservative treatment to save our tooth ..It is usually done when the tooth decay reaches the nerve layer of teeth....There is no age restriction for root canal treatment...The alternative will be tooth removal which is not advicible .it is better to save your teeth then to remove it.
Next Steps
kindly proceed with what your dentist suggests.

Hello,
Yes, root canal treatment is safe in children.Your ward is probably suffering from early childhood caries or nursing bottle caries .He /she would have advised root canal treatment because the caries is deep enough and has involved or approached the pulp. Since your child is only 17 months old, removal of the tooth is not advisable as this tooth has to remain in the mouth till 5-6 years of age when it will fall or shed naturally.
Hello,
Root canal treatment(called Pulpectomy in children ) is safe and advisable option for children.
Even though Endodontists are specialist in Root canal treatment, they do it in adults and paediatric dentists specialise in root canal treatment of children ranging from new born babies to adolescents.
Next Steps
I would like to appreciate that you consulted with a paediatric dentist(the right doctor to go to for your child ‘s teeth) . I would advise you to trust your doctor.
Health Tips
As only his upper front teeth are affected with decay, it could be a case of early childhood caries , so discuss with your dentist for about the various diet options, and also for oral hygiene measures.
