Dealing with heavy cough & ear issues

Asked for Female, 27 Years

I have an Upper Respiratory Infection. I've went through most of my antibiotics and it is clearing up. The only issue I'm having now is my ear still feels like its being muffled and I have a cough that is so bad it makes me vomit at times. Is there anyway to fix this?

Hello! The ear block feeling could be due to the edema(swelling) of the eustachian tube opening that is in the nasopharynx (behind the nose), resulting in reduced ventilation and drainage to the middle ear. It generally occurs at the time of upper respiratory infections. Nasal decongestants and valsalva manouvre will help. The cough could be due to the sinusitis leading to a post nasal drip. It would be better to know the duration of the symptoms and nature of cough from your side.
