The term 'Cyclic Neutropenia' comprisres of two words. Cyclic means something which is not permanent. It comes and goes. Neutropenia means decrease in number of Neutrophils . Neutrophils are a type of white blood cells which help in fighting infection. So Cyclic Neutropenia means a disease in which the count of Neutrophils keeps on increasing and decreasing. The Neutrophils help in fighting infection. So the person is susceptible to severe infection. An infection which will cause no symptoms in an ordinary person may become life threatening in a person with cyclic Neutropenia. The disease may be due to Genetic disorder in which a person is born with this disease. Or he may get it later. This is a rare disease, about 1 case per million. In most rare instances it may become cancer but it is unlikely (because cancer means excess growth of cells whereas Neutropenia means extremely low cell count).
