Confused about tt vac
I had taken TT (Tetanus Toxoid) vaccines on 11/08/2025, 05/11/2025, and 13/03/2026. However, the timing was not maintained properly. I took them at approximately 0, 3 months, and 4 months instead of the recommended 0, 1 month, and 6 months schedule. Today, I had a bike accident and my foot was cut by a dirty/rusty piece of metal. After that, I went to a local doctor, and he advised me to take a TT injection. I forgot to tell him that I had already taken those 3 TT injections, although not at the proper intervals. Now, should I take another TT injection? If I take one, will it be safe? Also, I am currently undergoing a course of anti-rabies vaccination.. booster dose.(0,3,14) Confused... please clarify these

Since your last TT injection was in March 2026 — just 3 months ago — you have adequate tetanus protection and technically do not need an additional dose for this wound. For dirty or contaminated wounds, a tetanus booster is recommended only if the last dose was more than 5 years ago; since yours was only 3 months ago, you are well covered. That said, if an additional TT injection is given, it is completely safe and will not cause any harm. Most importantly, make sure the wound is properly cleaned, irrigated, and dressed — wound care is equally important in preventing infection.
Next Steps
Inform your doctor about your 3 previous TT doses. Ensure the wound is thoroughly cleaned and covered. Watch for any signs of infection. Please consult me directly on Practo for a detailed evaluation.

Since your last TT was on 13/03/2026, and today is within 5 years, you usually do not need another TT for a dirty wound if you already completed 3 doses. CDC says no tetanus vaccine is needed when the primary series is completed and the last dose was

Hi, Since you already had 3 doses of TT in the last 8 months even if the schedule was irregular, your immunity is reasonably good. For this dirty wound, one additional TT booster is given for extra protection. No harm in taking it now. Continue your anti rabies course as scheduled. Feel free to consult for further guidance.

Hello, hope you are doing good. Although this was not the ideal 0, 1 month, 6 month schedule, you did receive 3 doses, and the intervals were not too short. In general, vaccine doses given later than recommended usually remain valid and do not need to be restarted. It's valid till 5 years from last dose. And even if you have taken another shot its not a bad thing, don't worry, have a great day.

Since your last TT dose was on 13/03/2026 (just ~3 months ago), and you've completed 3 doses: •No TdT booster is needed right now. You are protected. •TIG (Tetanus Immunoglobulin) is also not required as you have an adequately immunized status with a recent dose.
Next Steps
•The dose your local doctor gave today is not harmful — an extra TT dose is safe; it just causes mild local reactions at most. No need to worry about it.
Health Tips
•Booster reminder: Your next TT booster will be due 10 years from your last dose (2036), as per standard guidelines for fully immunized adults.
