Hello Doctors,
My IgE levels are extremely high (8,000), and a skin prick test confirmed a histamine allergy (score: 6). I’ve struggled with depression, and after multiple failed antidepressants, my psychiatrist prescribed Vortioxetine, which I’ve been taking for 10 days.
Since Vortioxetine affects both serotonin and histamine levels, I’m worried it might worsen my allergy. So far, no major reactions, but I want to be cautious.
Should I continue, consult my doctor for an alternative, or is there no need to worry? Any advice would be appreciated.

Hi..Vortioxetine has a low affinity for histamine (H1) receptors and is unlikely to cause significant histaminergic effects. It does not typically trigger histamine release or worsen histamine intolerance. However, like any medication, it may rarely cause hypersensitivity reactions such as rash or itching. Patients with severe histamine intolerance should check the excipients in the formulation. If unusual symptoms occur, alternative antidepressants with minimal histaminergic effects may be considered.
