Hello doctor,
My mom is 49 years old and is having weight around 79kg. She has both knees osteoarthritis. She is not able to walk freely and has immense pain on both knees as well as below knees calf muscle. While going on small stairs even 2,3 stairs, She is having problems and requiring support with both hands.
She is taking shelcal xt, jointace c2+, thynorm 25. She is also wearing joint knee caps in both legs.
Is there any cure to this apart from surgery ?
She had also taken kenacort 1ml on her left knee 3 weeks back but she didn't even feel any relief after that. She is having also very less bone density i.e. T score is -2.64.
I was thinking of buying an air bike or exercise cycle for her with the thought it will help in the mobility of her knees joints and lubrication of joints.
Please advise us.
Thanks.

This is due to degenerative and metabolic problem, right side advances osteoarthritis than left side,in advanced cases there won't be any cure with medication and for right side knee surgery will give better results and outcome,
Next Steps

Her right knee has severe arthritis in knee and patellofemoral joint whereas her left knee has grade 3 to 4 arthritis.
Generally in such late stages medications and injections don't help much on the long term. Viscosupplement injection can be attempted but there is a low chance it would work on the right knee . Can help in the left knee with some physiotherapy and activity modification.
Next Steps
if not a standing xray, try to get a standing xray to confirm the joint space reduction.
If any symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis present, better the get blood investigations done for the same.
quadriceps and hip strengthening exercises will help
knee cap can be worn .
Health Tips
avoid sitting on floor and squatting, crosslegged position. minimise stairs.
hot water fomentation can be attempted
analgesics to be taken as per need either orally or topically.
consult an orthopaedician if symptoms don't improve
