I have had jaw pain and clicking and popping when opening and closing my mouth. I went to the immediate care place and they said i have TMJ, but did nothing for me. I then went to my dentist where they also did nothing for me, but said to come back next week and they will fit me for a mouth guard. No one has tried to figure out where the TMJ has stemmed from. Should I go to the ER so they might actually refer me to someone who can help me? My cheek is very swollen and i can barely open my mouth

TMj means temporomandibular disorder and disorder means something is not working right. You have to do self care in TMj problems. There are few does and don't of TMj problems. Practo consultation with full mouth X-ray would be required.

Don't worry.. we can definitely help you.If your cheek is swollen...You need to find out with x ray if you have issue with wisdom tooth or 3rd molar tooth which generally comes in your age group.Sometimes it is inside bone and you get swelling due to infection with its eruption in mouth. There is lot of information needed to give you exact reason for tmj issue or swelling of cheek and limited opening of mouth.
