My husband and I are married for a month now and I see that he suffers from severe back pain but resists treatment. He told me that he has been having pain for the past few years, which crops up more often now with added responsibilities. Even riding a bike for a few minutes can cause the pain to aggravate. He is unable to sleep at night.

back pain you described is due to lack of flexibility. do not be worried, just ice the area at back of thigh and lower back 5 to 10 minutes twice a day. massage the back thigh and calf region. stretch the hamstring muscle. look for video in YouTube you will know how to do. pain will subside to 39%. if your husband is willing visit a physio near you. physio specialised in posture correct can be of great help to you.
