Hello I understand your concern — there’s been a lot of confusing news about cough syrups for babies recently. Let me clarify it for you. Mcbery Oral Drops (Ambroxol + Guaifenesin + Terbutaline) is a mucolytic and bronchodilator combination often prescribed for chesty coughs or mild wheeze in infants. However, these drops are not recommended for every type of cough, especially dry coughs or simple viral colds, because: Babies under 1 year are very sensitive to bronchodilators. Unnecessary use can cause mild jitteriness, loose stools, or increased heartbeat. So while Mcbery isn’t a banned drug, it should only be given under a pediatrician’s supervision and for specific conditions (like chest congestion or bronchiolitis). If your baby’s cough is mild, sometimes only saline nasal drops, hydration, and steam are enough — no cough medicine needed. To guide you properly, I’d like to know: Is the baby’s cough dry or with phlegm? Any noisy breathing or chest congestion? Any fever or poor feeding? Once you share these details, I can tell you whether Mcbery is actually needed or if a safer alternative will work better. You can message me directly on WhatsApp — nine three two six zero two zero five three six for a quick review of your baby’s symptoms and correct dosage guidance. I’ll personally assess and make sure your little one gets only what’s truly safe and effective. — Dr. Shivam Mishra, MBBS Pediatric & Family Medicine | Ex-Registrar, Cooper BMC Hospital, Mumbai

No. Better to avoid cough syrups unless prescribed by a paediatrician. Steam inhalation and nebulisation are usually used for kids.

Dear, the baby is very young. Kindly do not ask for medicine in such a way. May be he needs another medicine, and not cough syrup. Dnt save money for the sake of ur child's health.

As such, cough syps are not safe and good for small children, particularly infants and toddlers. If antibiotic has been started, continue it, give him some steam, warm water, apply turmeric paste  made with warm water, over throat and chest or massage gently with lukewarm water, very little  hot water  with jaggery, black pepper or tulsi, to drink. Try one or more of such measures,  he will improve.

Yes they are safe. The banned cough syrups were from a particular pharma company which had excess ethylene glycol in them. Rest of the branded pharma companies are safe and effective to use
