Previously I was diagnosed with schizoaffective, I was on antipsychotic medication and Prozac. After 5 months my parents decided they wanted a third opinion from a different psychiatrist than my previous 2 and his diagnosis was social anxiety. Now my parents have stopped me from taking my medications and want me to start lorazepam and Lexapro. I've been off medication for 4 weeks now and all the crippling symptoms are coming back and I can't deal with it any longer. My parents are adamant about his diagnosis but I am not. I have been hallucinating for as far as I can remember and I have time and time again told them the cause of the anxiety are the delusions and hallucinations but they don't believe me. How do I deal with this?

Hello!
Speak to your parents and ask them to take another opinion. You discussing the extent of your symptoms is the one way that they will probably get convinced. Getting off medication and not completing the course of medication can have further consequences. But for now, don't self-medicate. Take another consultation. If needed, you can visit a Psychotherapist side by side.
Next Steps
Take another consultation from another psychiatrist

If once you have been diagnosed for schizoeffective disorder you must follow the proper treatment plan as prescribed by your doctor. The purpose of medicines was to prevent you falling into more serious domain of mental health issues. Schizoeffective is a time period in which onset of various symptoms starts appearing so treatment at this stage is very important. If not followed properly récurrence of problem is sure. So after proper evaluation start your treatment again and you also need session of CBT for quick recovery.
The only thing you can do here is convince your parents of the extent of your symptoms. Also, once you discontinue meds that you were taking for a long time, symptoms might increase. So maybe you could give it some time and see if it gets better. If not then you have to convince your parents somehow.
