Hi
What you’re going through looks like a long-term anxiety pattern where your mind has become used to staying alert all the time, especially around sleep and responsibilities. Even when your body is tired, your thoughts keep running in the background thinking what if something happens, what if I don’t sleep, what if there is an emergency at work. The more you try to control or force sleep, the more your mind resists it and this creates a loop of sleeplessness, chest discomfort, headache, and constant overthinking. This is not your fault, it is something your brain has learned over many years, and that’s why it feels so difficult to switch off.
We need to slowly break this cycle by helping your mind feel safe again. This will involve working on your fear of uncertainty, especially related to work emergencies, and changing how you respond to sleep. Instead of trying to force sleep, we help your mind relax into it. Techniques like managing overthinking, giving your mind a fixed time to worry during the day, and calming your body will help. Since this has been going on for many years and is now affecting your mood also, proper therapy and sometimes medical support can really help you feel better. Take therapy. What you're experiencing appears to be related to long-standing anxiety, which can often cause overthinking, fear about future responsibilities, and difficulty falling asleep. The fact that you keep worrying about whether you'll get sleep can itself worsen insomnia.
The good news is that this is very much treatable. Since you’ve been facing this for many years and are now also feeling low, it would be best to consult a psychiatrist for a proper evaluation and treatment.
Meanwhile, you can try simple steps like maintaining a fixed sleep schedule, avoiding screen time before bed, and practicing relaxation techniques such as deep breathing or guided meditation at night.
With the right treatment and techniques, you can feel significantly better.
As per your narrative you are having Generalised anxiety disorder. Now with sleep disturbances, dry mouth, restlessness etc. if it’s from 15 years the do consult a psychiatrist and take medication if required along with Relaxation techniques.
