You: • Completed 5-dose rabies vaccination on 11 February • Got bitten 2 days later • Puppy is 84 days old • Puppy is healthy • Puppy was unvaccinated but not sick Medically: Since you completed a full rabies vaccine course just 2 days ago, your body has already developed protective antibody levels. As per rabies guidelines:
Next Steps
Immediately: ✔ Wash wound with soap and running water for 15 minutes ✔ Apply povidone iodine Observe Puppy: • Monitor for 10 days • If puppy remains healthy → No booster needed Booster? Since you completed vaccination only 2 days ago: Most guidelines consider you protected. However, some clinicians still give: • 2 booster doses (Day 0 and Day 3) for extra precaution in confirmed bites. It is not harmful if given, but may not be strictly necessary if: • Puppy healthy • Bite minor • No deep bleeding
Health Tips
✔ Do not panic ✔ Recently vaccinated individuals are well protected ✔ Avoid unnecessary repeated full vaccine courses ✔ Keep puppy vaccinated going forward ⸻ When To Act Urgently If: • Puppy becomes sick or dies within 10 days • Bite was deep and bleeding heavily • You are immunocompromised Then booster doses should be given. ⸻ Since you completed full vaccination just 2 days ago, your protection is at its peak. Risk is extremely low, especially if the puppy remains healthy. To be completely certain and avoid anxiety, I recommend a brief online consultation where we can assess the bite category properly and decide whether booster doses are truly required in your specific case.

Dear Patient, Since you have completed the full 5-dose pre-exposure rabies vaccination series, you are already protected. For a bite from an unvaccinated puppy: - No booster is required immediately if the puppy is healthy and you have no exposure to confirmed rabid animals. - Clean the wound thoroughly with soap and running water for at least 15 minutes and apply antiseptic. - Observe the puppy for 10 days; if it remains healthy, no post-exposure vaccine is needed. - If the puppy develops illness or dies suddenly, contact your doctor immediately—rabies post-exposure vaccination may then be indicated. Consult me - Any signs of infection at the bite site (redness, swelling, pus) - Unusual symptoms in the puppy or high-risk exposure situations For further guidance and personalized reassurance you may consult me on Practo anytime.
