I am having chronic anal fissure. Doctor advised to go for surgery. I have heard that in surgery they cut the internal anal sphincter muscle, my doubt is will the muscle that is cut grow back after some time or we will lost it permanently? Please 🙏 reply 😭

Greetings!
Anal fissure is similar to an ulcer
The protective mucosal barrier tears open as a result of frictional injury and exposes the underlying sphincter muscles
This muscle undergoes spasm due to constant irritation resulting in reduced anal opening (tightness on passing stools)
During surgery we don’t completely cut off the entire internal anal sphincter ring. Rather we cut one third to two thirds of this ring.
Thereby we reduce the spasm and dilate the anal opening still retaining the function of residual internal anal sphincter.
So don’t worry!
Discuss the doubts again with your surgeon and go for it if he advises to.
Thank you
