My daughter is in 10th standard, she was a very studious girl, but now she sleeps at 5 pm and wake up at 7:30 am, not studying anything. She shouts and cry she can't play due to knee and ankle pain but for this I had taken her to doctor and examined and cleared that her knees and ankle is absolutely fine. But she cries that she cannot walk and she has knee pain so she sleeps and not studying anything. Everyday she follows the same routine. I am not able to convince her, I tried many ways but she changes back to this same routine. Please let me know what I have to do and how to get her out of this.

What you are describing is concerning, but also treatable, and it is important to understand that this is not laziness or stubborn behavior.
Based on the pattern you’ve described-excessive sleeping (from evening to morning), withdrawal from studies, frequent crying, irritability, shouting, and physical pain despite normal medical examination-this strongly suggests a psychological or emotional health issue, most commonly adolescent depression, anxiety disorder, or somatic symptom disorder. In teenagers, emotional distress often presents as physical pain (like knee or ankle pain) even when no physical disease is found. The pain feels real to her, even though tests are normal.
At this age, academic pressure, fear of failure, hormonal changes, low mood, or internal stress can overwhelm a child. Sleeping excessively is often a coping mechanism, not a sign of comfort. Her statement that she “cannot walk” despite normal findings is a classic sign that her mind and body are expressing distress together, not that she is pretending.
What is most important now is not forcing her to study or arguing, as this can increase resistance and worsen symptoms. She needs professional mental health support. The right specialist to consult is a Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist (or a psychologist experienced with adolescents). They can properly assess whether this is depression, anxiety, or a stress-related condition and guide treatment, which may include counseling, behavioral therapy, family support, and if needed, short-term medication.
Next Steps
You should seek help as soon as possible, especially because:
The sleep pattern is severely disturbed
Daily functioning (studying, routine) is affected
Emotional outbursts and withdrawal are increasing
These conditions are very common in Class 9–10 students and highly reversible if treated early. With proper support, children usually return to their normal routine, confidence, and academic focus.
Most importantly, reassure her that you believe her pain, that she is not weak, and that help is available. This is a health issue, not a discipline issue. Early intervention can completely change the course for the better.
It will need a proper further evaluation by a physician.
Try getting CBC, CRP, ESR, ASO titre and RA Factor done.
If all is normal, a session with a psychologist won’t hurt.
Make sure she has some basic blood tests like CBP and ESR.
She most probably is stressed and if the blood tests are okay, please consult a Psychiatrist urgently.
All the best.
