Alopecia areata and male pattern baldnes
I am suffering from alopecia areata. Loosing hair from scalp, stomach, chest, legs, pubic region, beard etc. My doctor prescribed me minoxidil 10% and told me this is from stress. Now I am also seeing hair loss from crown portion of the head. Doctor told me it's male pattern baldness. Now I don't understand what should I do? As hair fall is increasing day by day. Is this incurable? This thing put me in more stressed situation. In my blood test report everything is fine except the value of TSH is 0.34. Should I go for natural remedies like onion juice and all for this?

Donot self treat with onion etc, it can cause severe irritation and burns. Alopecia areata can be treated. You are also suffering from androgenic alopecia which is also called as pattern baldness. The hairs start reducing in density at the crown (top) and also the hairline starts receeding  from the front. This is usually progressive throughout life unless treated. It is usually accompanied by severe dandruff which we call seborrhoea. The FDA approved treatment for this condition is the best. No oil or cream will magically work because the hairs are getting miniaturised  and eventually disappearing due to the hormonal effects of DHT on the hair roots. Hi. Please be careful while self medicating - even if its "so called natural therpaies", I have seen patients "burn" their scalp with onion juice . So pls be careful. I feel you need to get a detailed evaluation - including trichoscopy by a qualified dermatologist. You may need something more that 10% minoxidil. Some patients may have a combination of the two types of alopecias, or it may be diffuse form of alopecia areata itself on the scalp. Pls see a qualified dermatologist near you / or send in your complaint sin detail with photos on practo direct consult. Warm regards, Dr Govind S Mittal, Bengaluru.
