I have been diagnosed with ADHD and prescribed Concerta 18mg. It works like magic and I have been using it for 2 months now. The problem is that the doc insists that I consult every month (not cheap) before he writes prescription for another 30 days. Is this standard? The medicines itself are expensive and on top of that monthly Dr fees. I understand if i need to check-in every 3-6 months..

Regular consultations are required initially to keep in check the effectiveness, degrees of improvement and residual symptoms if any or early relapse signs, and the any untoward side effects of meds which may be missed in routine. However with passage of time, once you are stable, the prescribing physician may lengthen the follow up time depending on the circumstances.
