Tab zolpidem is most widely used drug for insomnia. If you have sleep disturbance along with depression as you mentioned in question. It is better to treat depression and anxiety first. There is bidirectional relationship between insomnia and depression. Depression can lead to decreased sleep and insomnia can lead to depressive features. So it is important to identify which is primary pathology depression or insomnia. If depression is primary pathology antidepressant like Mirtazepine which has sedative property is preferred in night time. If insomnia is primary pathology than treatment of the insomnia is most important. For insomnia sleep hygiene can be added with drug for better result. For sleep hygiene you can search on google steps of sleep hygiene. If u want to stop zolpidem, you must taper the dose gradually..like take 3/4th dose for 2weeks, than 1/2 dose next 2weeks and 1/4th dose for next 1 weeks and stop it. Or You may use melatonin 3mg/ramelteon 8mg to replace zolpidem. Kindly consult nearby psychiatrist for primary diagnosis and management.
