Achilles Calcific Tendinitis
Hello Doctor, I am a football player and had suffered an injury in my Achilles tendon of both of my legs a few months back. Initially, I took a few days of rest and resumed playing once there was no pain. However, I again got an injury on my right Achilles tendon, and this time the pain was so severe that I was unable to put weight on my right heel. After undergoing X-ray and ultrasound, I have been diagnosed with Achilles calcific tendinitis. Could you please advise on: 1. How long does recovery typically take in such cases? 2. Will I be able to return to competitive football?

Use soft-soled slippers or cushioned footwear regularly for a minimum period of six months. Since you are having calcific Achilles tendinitis, you are advised to perform plantar fascia and Achilles tendon stretching exercises daily. If the symptoms do not resolve with these measures, surgical management in the form of Haglund deformity burr excision may be considered. If needed, consult a nearby orthopaedic specialist for further evaluation and appropriate treatment
