A high triglyceride level may predispose to a future heart event. But treating triglycerides with medication doesn’t reduce the risk. In fact the long term anti- triglyceride medication may be harmful. A triglyceride value of more than 500mg however, may also lead to pancreatitis and will require long term treatment.
Triglyceride level in blood changes a lot with prior food intake. So a triglyceride testing should be done only after an overnight twelve hour fasting.
Next Steps
Please repeat a fasting lipid profile after 12 hours of overnight fasting. The triglycerides may actually be less.
Regular brisk walking will greatly help reducing the triglyceride levels. A moderately carbohydrate restricted food will also help. You don’t need medication for triglycerides as of now.
Hi
Sometimes TG above 400 we treat with medication.
But in your case in view of your younger age and other normal reports, best treatment is exercise and weight reduction.
Next Steps
Medication you can try is Omega 3 capsules, recommended dosage is 2 grams /day
and 45 min of walk 6 days a week.
Health Tips
TG is not a risk factor for heart disease but usually associated with Prediabetes, diabetes, excessive Beer intake, lack of physical activity and obesity.
Hello,
You just need to do exercise regularly for at least 150 min a week for at least 5 days a week including either jogging or swimming or brisk walk or walking uphill. Keep BMI < 25 and avoid junk and take high fibre diet. Repeat your lipid profile after 1 month. Right now you do not need medicines.
Take care. Stay safe
