Usually in regular cycles , immediately prior to periods is your safe period so chances of pregnancy during this time are not there.
However if cycles are irregular better to use a contraceptive..

No it is complete safe period but condition is cycle should be regular and of 28 days.In 28 days cycle first and last seven days are safe and rest are unsafe.If you are having doubt then confirm by Bhcg .It is blood test and confirmed also.
