In May 2024 I was vaccinated with Abhayrab after a dog bite. I have the bill and it states the batch number of the vaccine was KB24002. Since there is recent news of counterfeit Abhayrab vaccines, should I get re- vaccinated?

Your vaccine fall in the period of ineffective vaccination. Get yourself vaccinated again.
Or get your batch number tested for ineffectiveness via serum institute
Hi Arpeet, this is Dr Prakash,
Because counterfeit Abhayrab rabies vaccine has been reported in India since late 2023, health authorities in several countries advise that anyone who received Abhayrab in India after this time should be clinically reviewed and, in many cases, revaccinated, as the counterfeit product may not give protection against rabies.
Your documented dose in May 2024 (batch KB24002) falls within the risk period. The authenticity and potency of that batch cannot be confirmed from the bill alone, so your original series has to be considered of uncertain effectiveness.
So according to your national rabies PEP guideline, considering your prior Abhayrab doses as “invalid/unknown potency” deciding on a new course would be ideal way of carrying forward
Next Steps
Visit a Doctor in your neighbourhood and Start or complete a full post‑exposure prophylaxis course using a currently recommended rabies vaccine (e.g. Rabipur/Verorab or another WHO‑prequalified product), with or without RIG depending on your original exposure category and current guidelines.
Health Tips
As Several Other countries have issued a public advisories on this matter, we should wait for the Official Advisory from Indian Government Authorities before jumping into next step..
Good day Sir,
Rabies vaccine is given in multiple doses in a given gap of 7 to 21 days. Your treating doctor would have told you about it. Its not a single vaccine.
If you have doubt about the vaccine then ask for a branded vaccine like the one from SERUM INSTITUE or BHARAT BIOTECH.
Next Steps
take the remaining shots of the vaccine and don't worry.
Health Tips
Ask the child to be careful and be vigilant about his play surroundings to prevent any animal attacks. Also make the child feel friendly with animals so that the fear of dogs go away.
