You should wash the wound properly with soap and water and give vaccination within 24 hrs and then follow schedule depending on your injection mode ( I/v or I/d)
Cat scratch from an unvaccinated cat in a 15-month child is a rabies exposure (Category II/III), even if scab has formed, so do not delay treatment. Immediately rewash the wound for at least 15 minutes with soap and running water, then apply povidone-iodine or chlorhexidine; avoid tight bandage or irritants. Rabies vaccine (Day 0) should be given as soon as possible—preferably within hours, but start today itself without fail. If there is Category III bite, then Rabies Immunoglobulin (RIG) is required, to be infiltrated into the wounds along with the first dose, under pediatrician supervision. Also assess tetanus status—TT may be needed if immunization is incomplete. For comfort, Paracetamol can be given for pain/irritability. Kindly take the child to a hospital immediately today for vaccination ± RIG.
I appreciate your presence of mind by washing with running water that's great thing you have done
You need to get vaccine within 24hrs preferably within 6hrs would be the best of the best
Hi good evening,
First was there any bleeding?
If there was any bleeding Rabies immunoglobulin and rabies vaccination to be done
If there was no bleeding just vaccination is enough
Next Steps
1. Wash with running water and soap for ten minutes
2. looks for bleeders
3. go for vaccination at the earliest possible
